Happy Flu Year!
. . . for the record, I don’t technically have the flu, but it sure feels like I do
I thought after my unplanned sick day that I was done with my sick quota for at least the month. Then at work I started getting really congested and it got progressively worse! Ears, throat, nose, horrible cough.
Its unfortunate it happened that day, but that didn’t stop me from going to Lancaster PA with my mom, dad and sisters.
We have been going to Lancaster since I can remember for vacations when we were little. Over the years the vacations have evolved into over night stays or road trips. We eat, we shop and we shop for food . . . cant get much better than that!
I didn’t get as many pictures as I really wanted to due to me feeling so under the weather and on just a few hours of sleep, but here’s how it went.
Marie and Dad picked me up to go home to wait for Mom to get out of work. I got an early birthday gift!
We got to the hotel at 1:16 am!
I shared a bed with Jill who was also sick. We stayed up for a good hour at least making fun of each other and scaring Marie.
When we woke up about 4 hours later, I was feeling much worse than when I fell asleep I took a quick shower and we were off!
We headed out to Shady Maple which is the best ever buffet/smorgasbord on earth. They have TONS of food and so many things to choose from as well as homemade desserts.
When we got there, there must have been 500 people waiting to eat (not kidding, the place is HUGE!). We decided it would be best to leave. Hopefully soon I will be able to show you the magic.
We instead went to another buffet for breakfast that we used to like. I had a veggie omelet with some potatoes. I stuck with light foods like biscuits and breads as I couldn’t handle anything harsh to digest.
The rest of our time was spent shopping and driving through the country.
I was able to pick up some random food things.
Around 4pm it was time to start heading home for New Years Eve festivities.
Chris and my brother were at the house when we got there and they came bearing food! They picked up a platter from Fins, one of our favorite restaurants.
We ate some appetizers and also had an awesome carrot cake made by Mom.
While everyone was playing Wii in the living room . . .
I was getting progressively worse. There was no way I could stay up until 12 so I spent most of the time on the couch asleep.
I woke up at 11:30pm. Dad had a great idea to set our cameras to take a picture as soon as the new year hit. We photographed the exact moment 2011 came!
We left my parents around 2 am and woke up at 9:30 am which is pretty late by Val standards.
I still feel really bad so I hung around the house for most of the day. We ordered take out for brunch.
Later, I forced myself to go out to the bank and go food shopping. We picked up some food that I need to cook for the week and we also picked up some NyQuil for me. If you know me, this is BIG as I never take antibiotics or these kinds of things. I just hope I feel much better by tomorrow!!
Despite starting out 2011 with my head in a tissue box, I feel great about the future. For some reason, sometimes things that start out really bad in my life end up being the greatest things. Cheers to that!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
How did you ring in 2011?
