february 2012 goals
tomorrow marks one month since ive landed on this island. I can definitely say that I have crossed the threshold from visiting to living in hawaii. this means, no matter what happens in my life, I can always say . . . yeah, I lived in hawaii once
with that said, a lot of the newness and excitement has faded and now its really time to start establishing this life of mine for the rest of my time here. so, I scribbled up some goals id like to share. now, im not a huge fan of goals as it seems as soon as I write them, I rebel against them because I feel the need to HAVE to do them. either way im going to try it out once more and not get too crazy like my over-achiever old self.
I broke things down into monthly, weekly and daily since I like to have small steps.
here goes . . .
MONTHLY
Finish Pineapple Shirt Design – turns out, eating local here is a big deal. my first t-shirt design back home was a peapod. my other roommate here suggested I do the same with a pineapple and it would be a hit around oahu. id probably be crazy if I didn’t try to cash in with this.
Explore More Of The Island – this is always something im striving for and since I am meeting so many new people and im not afraid to take the bus, I don’t see why this wouldn’t happen
Have My First Surfing Lesson – id also probably be crazy if I didn’t even TRY to surf out in hawaii. that’s kind of like going to my favorite restaurant and just ordering water and toast. luckily my friend is willing to give me a lesson.
Launch New Blog Design – as much as I love my layout, it doesn’t feel like me anymore. ive been working on a new design that is kind of the same with a slight hipster feel. it takes a while to get it just right but im getting there.
Find Another Part-Time Gig – I know I landed an awesome job, but if I don’t find some way to make money in between that will work with the concert schedule, im not sure how much longer I could stay. this actually helps motivate me to move along on my shirt project as I can still make money and make my own hours.
Drop Some Weight By Eating Intuitively & Increasing Activity – im learning so much more here about my relationship with myself/body than I ever did at home. in fact, I even started writing the beginnings of a book! as I continue to learn I hope to help others by sharing my story and what has worked for me.
Go On A Date – im not looking for love, but I do miss companionship and just having someone interesting to share my adventures with. ive never actually actively sought out to go on a date, but I think its time and . . . why not?
WEEKLY
Strength Training 3x Per Week – there are a ton of active people out here and that includes some friends I made. as a former personal trainer, I know how important this is and am anxious to jump back on that wagon, gym or not.
Cardio 4x Per Week – I don’t think cardio should be in ‘sessions’ but ive been going for short runs at night fairly often. when I don’t, I take heed in the fact that I walk at LEAST 3+ miles a day . . . that counts too and I like it.
1-2 Meals Out – im beginning to feel the wrath of the food inflation around here and its not pretty. when I first got here I was comfortable with taking myself to lunch or grabbing some oatmeal from starbucks because it was easy and I was already out. now that my money is starting to burn up, I need to be more wise about cooking and eating more at home. shouldn’t be a problem, im a chef right?
Participate In Blog-land – ill be transparent here and tell you that I really would like my blog to be more popular. my current salary im pulling from my ad is not significant. I know I need to blog more frequently and participate in others while keeping things authentic around here.
DAILY
3 Bottles Of Water – maybe it’s the heat and humidity, but I really feel different when im not hydrated. ive been making it a goal to drink more water and I have no excuse since I bought one of those fancy bottles with a filter built in. drink up!
Only Eat When Seated – this is a cardinal rule of intuitive eating and for me it really makes a difference when I stop and sit down before shoving something in my face.
Journal – as much as I love having a place for my thoughts, a lot of them are kept privately in my head or in a notebook. I am actually going to start a private blog to track daily thoughts/ramblings because I want to keep track of this journey in every way.
Quality Meals – I also have been feeling a huge difference in my hunger when my meals are ‘off’. for instance, having millet puffs for dinner will only take me so far, but having something like a beans and rice combo really creates good fuel to last me a while as it contains carbs & protein etc . . . you know the deal.

looks like i got my work cut out for me in the next 29 days . . .
happy february!

The cost of living in Hawaii is probably similar to living in Alaska. Just wait until you order something online and have to have it shipped UPS with an AK/HI surcharged attached to it.
Oh well, at least your are living someplace awesome.
hey kate!
yes, i now feel your pain on the groceries aspect. i remember you telling me a while back how much you spend and im like . . . that is impossible!?!
now i get it . . .
and now were neighbors :p
Have fun, 6 or 5 weeks more of winter, where u use to live, it depends on what ground hog,u go by, but, the weather here has been mild, be careful surfing dudette.
