Life-Work Balance

Hey there . . . lets blog!

Well I have made it through my 15 day stretch with only one (self made) day off.  That whole experience was really kinda sucky.  The more things piled up the worse I felt and I just hope that if that kind of thing happens again, its because I am busy building my own dream.

I am trying to fill the 3 days I have with a good balance of work, relaxation, self-care and working on my closest relationships that sometimes need some fine-tuning after being in the grind for so long.

So far, I think I’m doing a good job!

Here are some highlights . . .

I put up a couple of things to sell for vacation money.  One of them is my Garmin Forerunner 205 that I purchased impulsively right before I started school.  At that point I was sure that running would be my thing again but I  have to admit that its not joyful when I make it a thing.  Id rather just use running as a part of my exercise arsenal and do it when I want without pressure.

If your interested in purchasing, I put it up on Ebay HERE.  Its $80 and ill pay the shipping . . . I only used it a handful of times!

We also got our nearly new mattress set for sale on Craigslist and already have 2 potential buyers!

We also took a nature walk through a trail near our house that we never been too.  It started out great with little signs about the animals and trees.  IMG_0258Then, there was a sign that said the rest of the trail was more “rustic”.  Which ended up meaning it was full of bugs and man made bridges and mud!! I got eaten alive and the part by the ocean was blocked off.  At least we got some activity.

We visited Marie at work at the new booger joint in town. . . 25 Burgers.

It was set up pretty cool like a 50’s diner.  The prices are pretty steep but the quality of the food was good.  Chris and I split a BBQ burger and some sweet potato fries.

We also witnessed Marie getting her first ever paycheck!  Congrats Marie, welcome to a long life of errr . . . fun!

I also put away my winter clothes and brought out my summer clothes.  Despite having my bed look like this . . .IMG_0251

It took me under an hour.  I have no clothes!!  Most of the stuff I have is really old or just t-shirts.  I really have to go clothes shopping.  I’m hoping to hit up some Memorial Day sales tomorrow.

I also had to throw away a lot of shirts because of the horrible armpit stains/smell. Yeah, I said it.  I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m a sweat person, but I feel like my shirts have such a short time limit before all that gross-ness gets trapped in the shirt!  I tried almost everything.  Any ideas on how to stop it or get it out?

Other than that, Chris and I hung out together and had a some long but needed talks. Its good to be on the same page!

Oh, and one more thing . . .

My First Health/Wellness Event Is Booked!

One of my summer goals (which ill post soon) was to do at least one health/wellness talk or workshop.  I eventually want to be doing things like this in the future and I really wanted to stop talking about it and actually get out there and do it!

We have a tentative date set for Thursday June 16th at Café De Point which is a cute local café serving coffee shop cuisine and Latin/Caribbean fusion food .

Its funny, I don’t really have anything to sell to anyone yet except maybe some future cooking classes?  I’m just doing it for the experience and to get my name out there.  Nothing wrong with that right?

I’ll have more details soon for what its going to be about and whatnot . . . I should probably get on that . . .

Not today though, I have to make my dish for the family Memorial Day food contest!

How is your life/work balance on holiday weekends?

Bring On The Spirit!

I’ve been really trying to get into the holiday spirit by doing something Christmas-y every day. As for Monday, I ate my weight in holiday treats brought in by our patients that counts right?

But the best treat of all . . .

Caroline’s Christmas cake pops!

I know I have seen a lot of cake pops on blogs, but these were the best! She made a chocolate cake from scratch, molded it into shapes and dipped it in festive chocolate! I swear the cake was just on the border of brownie which made it perfect!

. . . I know where you live CAROLINE!

After work we took a trip to the mall where I wrapped up most of my shopping. Which leads me to today’s spirit activity . . .

Wrapping, kids!

I still have more to wrap but it was good to get this chunk done.

In other news . . .

My fitness health is declining which is ironic because I am going to school to learn how to NOT let that happen  the shape of my body is reflecting the shape of my life right now and to an extent I am ok with that but I think I have learned how to deal with my schedule enough to start taking charge.

Of course, it sucks that it’s bitter cold to exercise outdoors but as I learned from Christie today, there are no excuses to not exercise in a way that brings you joy!

So I bundled up as best I could and went out for a 3 milk walk/run. ON A SCHOOL DAY!

It takes a while to warm up, but after 40min, I was nice and red.

I feel so much better today because of it. So much warmer and productive. I think this is a big piece missing from my life these days and I’m glad to have it back :)

Now it’s off to school for my last day until my birthday!! ( January 4th ;) )

How do YOU deal with exercising in the cold?
